i don't own the physical issue, but if i come across it in nyc, i'll post where! i see nylon japan here at bigger newsstands so maybe they'll start stocking the Mexico one.
I love this editorial, such lovely uses of subtle and bright pinks! I can't stand the way this color is usually used (abused), but this is wonderfullllll
Gotta say, what really struck me was the use of an obviously not-Mexican girl here. I know that there are many, many varieties of Mexican ethnicities, including European, but I'm 90% sure this is nowhere close to the majority. When are we gonna stop idealizing white skin as the international standard of beauty!?!?
Anon is on point. On a related note, it really threw me when you conclude that "skintone" to skin is the antithetical solution to that kind of overwhelming-pink you describe. To you, skintone is the more interesting cousin of pink, but to me and the vast majority of people, skin tone is anything but pink toned. Skintone as a color of neutrality-- the international standard of beauty that anon alludes to-- is bull.
thanks for the comment carolyn. i was in fact referring to skintone as ANY skintone, a neutral base, not just the lighter, white skintone portrayed in this story. i'm talking about in an effort to modernize pink and tone it down, pairing it with shades that blend in with your skin, whatever color that might be is an interesting idea. that's just what i took from the editorial. of course if i was the photographer of this shoot and that was indeed my point, i would have used a variety of girls to illustrate the beauty of pink against any tone.
yo there is an international newsstand in soho on spring and lafayette. i think you might be able to get nylon mexico there? this editorial is the shit.
this girl is the shit too http://jakandjil.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/kori.jpg
